Yolan Tirta
In the highlands of Gowa, South Sulawesi, Yolan Tirta carries a coffee legacy three generations deep. Coffee had always been part of his family's life, but it was Yolan who developed it, turning a smallholder tradition into something the Indonesian specialty coffee world could recognize. In 2016, he built his own processing mill, staying rooted in the land his family had farmed for decades.
Today Yolan runs two processing facilities, in Enrekang and Topidi. At around 1,250 meters above sea level, with varieties like Typica and S795 in Sulawesi's volcanic soil. To fight the region's relentless humidity, Yolan introduced greenhouse drying at both sites to increase quality and help with consistency on his green coffee drying.
What sets Yolan apart isn't only his coffee, though that alone has placed him among Indonesia's Cup of Excellence contenders. Through Enrekang and Topidi, he opened mills and drying stations to farmers who never had access to proper post-harvest infrastructure, training them to process the amazing coffees we have today. What started as one family's mill has grown into something bigger. More farmers meeting specialty standards, and more reason for the next generation in Gowa to stay in coffee.
We're proud to work with Yolan Tirta, a producer who didn't wait for South Sulawesi's coffee industry to catch up, but built his legacy early to bring the industry forward.
